What you are dealing with

If your front door has a keypad that flashes but will not accept the code, that is one sign. A phone app that loses contact with the lock is another. In Holts Summit, you may also see a thumb turn that feels loose or a deadbolt that stops partway. We look at the buttons, the battery cover, the inside turn piece, and the door bore to sort out which smart lock fits the problem you have.

What decides the approach

The way we set up the lock depends on the round hole in the door, the backset, and the trim around the face. A bored cylindrical body fits one kind of opening, while a rim or mortise case calls for a different layout. The keypad style, the inside escutcheon, and the latch at the edge all matter. In Holts Summit, we also check whether the door sits true and whether the inside knob leaves room for the smart lock.

How the job goes

At the door, we remove the old face plate, clear the opening, and set the new lock in place. Then we align the latch, mount the outside keypad or touch panel, and secure the inside side of the set. For app-controlled locks, we pair the lock and test the code pad and mobile control. We check the turn piece, the battery door, and the bolt movement. If the door is commercial, we look at the heavier trim and the entry side.

Looking after it

Afterward, keep the keypad clear of grit and wipe the screen with a dry cloth. Check the batteries when the light on the face starts to flash or the beeps change. On a Holts Summit door, watch for a sticky thumb turn, a slow beep, or a code pad that misses entries. If the app loses contact or the inside turn feels rough, the batteries, the contact points, or the latch may need attention.
