What you are dealing with

If your safe shifts when you pull the door, the base may be too light for the load inside. You may see fresh marks under the feet, a thin gap at one corner, or a body that rocks on the floor. In California, we also watch for a door that rubs the seal or a handle that sits close to a wall. Those signs point to a safe that needs solid placement and anchor work, not just a heavier cabinet.

What decides the approach

The approach depends on the safe body, the door swing, and the floor under it. A small home unit and a tall commercial safe do not sit the same way. Concrete, wood, and tile each change where the anchor points go and how the base is secured. In California and nearby Clarksburg, we also check clear space for the door, the hinge side, and the turning handle before we set the safe down.

How the job goes

We set the safe in place, level the body, and mark the anchor holes at the base. Then we move it just enough to drill through the floor surface and set the fasteners where the foot sits. After that, we pull the safe back over the holes and tighten the anchors while checking the door gap and the handle movement. In California, the base needs to stay flat so the door does not drag against the seal.

Looking after it

Afterward, keep the bottom edge clear of dust and grit so the safe sits flat on its feet. Wipe the hinge side and the handle so buildup does not collect near the latch area. Check the anchor heads now and then for rust, looseness, or a raised corner under the base. If the door starts to scrape, the body shifts, or the handle feels stiff at the first turn, those are early signs the safe needs attention.
